Main Processor and Memory:
• The main processor handles the patient monitor data processing. • It has non-volatile Flash memory for the boot software and Linux kernel and volatile SDRAM memory for executing runtime code and temporarily storing data.
• A removable non-volatile Flash memory, USB Disk Module (uDOM), is used as permanent memory for application and service software and for storing clinical and platform configurations. The uDOM can contain two versions of the software in different partitions: inactive and active.
EMBC Section:
• The Ethernet Module Bus Controller (EMBC) section on the CPU board has its own microcontroller. It has serial Flash memory for the EMBC boot software, NAND Flash memory for the EMBC application software and Linux kernel, and SDRAM for executing EMBC runtime code and temporarily storing data.
• The EMBC section communicates with the main processor via Ethernet communication.
• The EMBC section is responsible for the following tasks
Processor Services:
• Provides serial communications for the optional embedded recorder. • Provides RS-485 module bus communications for the E and PSM modules.
• Provides analog ECG and invasive pressure outputs and digital marker output signals for user-supplied devices such as defibrillators or intra-aortic balloon pumps.
Supply Voltage:
• The processor has converters that generate +1.5 V, +1.8 V, and +2.5 V supply voltages for the processor and +12 V and -12 V for the +3.3 V sync connector signals received from the DC/DC board.
• The CPU board passes the supply voltages generated by the DC/DC board to all other electronic components in the system (except the LED backlight adapter board).
System Watchdog:
• A watchdog timer monitors actions performed by the main processor and EMBC processor software.
• The CPU board has a battery-backed real-time clock that stores the system date and time.
• An I2C A/D converter and an SPI temperature sensor measure the processor supply voltage and the board temperature.
Video System:
• The CPU board has a video controller that provides an LVDS output to the LCD panel via the display cable and provides analog and digital video signals to an optional auxiliary display connected to the DVI-I connector on the interface board.
• The CPU board also provides analog brightness control signals and digital backlight enable signals to the LED backlight adapter board via the DC/DC board.
Audio System:
• The CPU board has a tone generator and an audio amplifier that send audible alarm signals to the main speaker. Audio feedback verifies speaker operation.
Interface Support:
• The USB host controller (root hub) provides a high-speed USB interface to the external USB port on the interface card and to the internal system components (user interface card, tone generator, and USB disk module).
• The main processor provides a link-level interface to the external RJ-45 Ethernet port and the PDM ePort DB9 interface on the interface card.
• The CPU board provides a physical-layer Ethernet interface to the 10-pin ePort connector on the PDM docking station.
